Nintendo Switch system update 22.5.0 is now available, bringing a redesigned Nintendo eShop, stronger purchase verification and more useful controls for videos shown in News and the eShop.
The update was released in June 2026 and remains the latest listed version on Nintendo UK support at the time of publication.

Redesigned Nintendo eShop
Nintendo has refreshed the eShop layout. If the console theme is set to Basic Dark, the store colour now follows that theme, giving the system and storefront a more consistent appearance.
PIN verification for eShop access and saved payments
A user-verification PIN can now be used when opening Nintendo eShop and when making a purchase with a saved payment method. This is especially useful on shared family consoles where several people use the same Switch.
A PIN is not a replacement for Nintendo Account security. Keep two-step verification enabled on the account and never share its password.
Skip forwards or backwards in full-screen videos
While watching a supported full-screen video in News or Nintendo eShop, the ZL and ZR buttons can now rewind or advance by 10 seconds. It is a small change, but useful for trailers and longer presentations.
General stability improvements
Nintendo also lists general system stability improvements. The company does not provide a detailed breakdown of every internal fix, so claims that the update boosts frame rates or changes individual games should be treated cautiously unless a developer confirms them.

- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Scroll down and select System.
- Look beneath System Update for the installed version.
