PlayStation Network Issues: What’s Going Wrong and How to Fix Connection Problems

PSN has been experiencing intermittent issues this month. Here's what's happening and how to get back online.

PlayStation Network has had a rocky July 2026, with players reporting intermittent connection problems, failed downloads, and multiplayer matchmaking failures across multiple titles. While Sony hasn’t issued a formal statement, the pattern of reports suggests infrastructure-level issues that go beyond individual game servers.

What Players Are Reporting

The most common complaints this month include:

  • Failed multiplayer connections in titles like Helldivers 2, Destiny 2, and Call of Duty: Warzone
  • Slow or stalled downloads from the PlayStation Store
  • Friends list not loading or showing incorrect online status
  • Error codes CE-33743-0 and NW-102216-2 appearing during login attempts

Our monitoring systems have picked up network-related issues across multiple PlayStation titles simultaneously, supporting the theory that PSN infrastructure is the common factor rather than individual game servers.

How to Fix PSN Connection Issues

While you can’t fix Sony’s servers, these steps resolve most player-side connectivity problems:

Step 1: Test Your Connection

Go to Settings → Network → Test Internet Connection on your PS5. Note the NAT type — you want Type 1 or Type 2. Type 3 causes the most issues with multiplayer.

Step 2: Restart Your Network

  1. Turn off your PS5 completely (not rest mode)
  2. Unplug your router for 30 seconds
  3. Plug the router back in and wait for it to fully restart
  4. Turn on your PS5

Step 3: Use a Wired Connection

If you’re on WiFi, switching to an Ethernet cable is the single biggest improvement you can make. WiFi introduces latency and packet loss that directly impact online gaming.

Step 4: Change DNS Settings

Go to Settings → Network → Set Up Internet Connection → select your connection → Advanced Settings → set DNS to:

  • Primary: 1.1.1.1
  • Secondary: 1.0.0.1

Cloudflare’s DNS is generally faster and more reliable than your ISP’s default.

Step 5: Rebuild Database

If you’re experiencing slow performance alongside network issues, a database rebuild can help. Boot into Safe Mode (hold power button until you hear a second beep) and select Rebuild Database. This won’t delete your games or saves.

Check PSN Status Before Troubleshooting

Before spending time on fixes, always check status.playstation.com first. If PSN itself is down, no amount of local troubleshooting will help — you just need to wait it out.
